In Singapore, you have access to a range of dispute resolution services – such as mediation, neutral evaluation, arbitration and trial. Which service you choose to utilise would be dependent on which you believe would be most suited to your needs.
It is advisable to always opt for alternative dispute resolution services (mediation, neutral evaluation or arbitration) rather than choosing to go for trial because it provides for a more peaceful, less costly and less time-consuming solution.
So how are the alternative dispute resolution services different?
- Mediation: A mediator would help both parties to reach a solution that would meet both their concerns. It is the least time consuming and costly of the different dispute resolution
- Neutral Evaluation: An evaluator would evaluate the case and evidence (provided by the parties’ lawyers), and give an estimate of the parties’ likelihood at trial.
- Arbitration: An arbitrator would be consider the case (presented by the parties’ lawyers) and make a binding decision which would have to be obeyed by the parties. It has a simplified procedure as compared to a trial.
